Benefits obtained from installing
MultiSimplex control systems on TMP refiners
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Results: MultiSimplex Refiner
Controller
• 50%
reduction of Freeness variation
• 10 - 15%
production increase
• 10 - 15%
reduced specific energy consumption (~200 kWh/t => 5,000
to 10,000 € / 24 h, depending on electricity prices)
System
specifications
· Control variable 1: Disc gap /
Specific Energy set point
· Control variable 2: Dilution water
flow
· Control variable 3: Production
screw rpm
· Response variable 1: Daily
production (tph) (Maximization)
· Response variable 2: Specific
energy consumption (Minimization)
· Response variable 3: Freeness
(Target 150 ml)
Control variable set points are
optimized using the patented MultiSimplex algorithm.
Response variables are combined
and priorotized using the fuzzy logic feature in the MultiSimplex algorithm.

Refiner optimization –
objectives
When optimizing a refining system,
you want to achieve certain pulp/fiber properties at highest possible
throughput and lowest possible specific energy consumption
while maintaining or increasing
the availability of the refining system.
MultiSimplex Refiner Controller is a supervisory control and
optimization system that automates the control and optimization of
refiner systems.
MultiSimplex effectuates the optimization by
controlling the refiners based on response variables such as cost, quality and
production, instead of disc gap, screw speed, etc.
Users can prioritize different optimization
criteria. MultiSimplex offers the possibillity to change/modify
the optimization goals for different products, production runs, etc.
MultiSimplex will adaptively raise
the "bar" for the optimization, when conditions are good.
Mill
specific objectives
The objectives with the installation of
the MultiSimplex
Refiner Controller New Company TMP mill were: Lower variations in pulp
quality, increase throughput, decrease energy consumption
and having the possibility to
control/optimize longfiber and shive content simultaneuously.
