Simplex optimization in atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS)

The simplex optimization method has been used successfully a great number of times to optimize atomic absorption (AAS) methods. Some examples of control variables (factors) that can be included in an optimization study are:

  • Air-to-fuel ratio
  • Ashing temperature
  • Atomization ramping time
  • Atomization temperature
  • Cathode lamp currents
  • Cell geometry
  • Gas flow rates
  • Height above the burner head
  • Height of the flame
  • Modifier concentration
  • Ramp to ashing temperature
  • Slit width
